Cinema, first perceived as a mere curiosity, became a creative art form thanks to its pioneers. From the technical advances of the 19th century to the Lumière brothers? cinematograph, cinema has evolved from sketches to narrative films. Georges Méliès brought a technical revolution and enchantment.
Today, cinema is one of our favorite pastimes. But how did it come about? And how did it become such a creative art form, even though its very inventors thought it was nothing more than a curiosity that would go out of fashion? From the many technical advances of the 19th century to the Lumière brothers' Cinématographe, and from the first everyday sketches to narrative films, the destiny of cinema was shaped in its early years by a number of pioneers. One of them exerted a decisive influence on this destiny: Georges Méliès, the magician who revolutionized cinematographic technique and introduced a touch of enchantment.
