Eglise Sainte-Jeanne-d'Arc

The church of Sainte-Jeanne-d'Arc overlooks the town of Gien. Only the bell tower survived the bombings of June 1940. The church was rebuilt in the 1950s, in red brick, to match the neighbouring castle.
Description
The church of Sainte Jeanne d'Arc is the last of the buildings constructed on the same site since the end of the Middle Ages. It is made of cut stone, brick and slate. Combining tradition and modernity, the church of Gien is quite characteristic of the first reconstruction, based on the will to rebuild, if not identically, in the greatest respect of the regional architectural tradition. Thus it borrows as much from regionalism as from modernity, skilfully mixing brick and reinforced concrete, or traditional masonry and modern construction systems.
