Le Colombier

This dovecote remains one of the only vestiges of the old commandery of Lureuil.
Description
3 fisheries used as fishponds for the commandery are being renovated as well as the entire site. As the engraved stone over the doorway of the east elevation indicates, the building was constructed in 1692. This date is confirmed by the description of the seigniorial property in the 1735/36 land survey where "there is a coulombier (…) in front of the castle, which was built by the late Mr de la Feuillère, formerly commander (…)" (Archives départementales de l'Indre, H 616). This is Claude de Montagnac, known as the knight of Larfeuillère, who presided over the destiny of the commandery from 1685 to 1709. Acquired by the municipality of Lureuil on June 25, 1999, the dovecote was restored, for the exterior, in 2000 and, for the interior, in 2007. It is now used as an exhibition room.
