Accueil Organise your stay Visits Museums & interpretation centres Pôle des Etoiles
Le Pôle des Etoiles is a complex assembling one of the most important radio astronomy observatories in the world and an interpretation centre – an interface between the public and the scientific equipment in operation.
Description
Le Pôle des Etoiles is a space of more than 1,000m2 dedicated to astronomy and the Universe, a mix between science and leisure. It is located just next to the radio astronomy station in Nançay (which is linked to the Paris Observatory). Created in 1953 on a 150-hectare site, with a concept unique in Europe, it has a copy of the largest eyes in the world, allowing observation of the universe up to 600 million light years away!
After a short while under the dome of the planetarium for a real journey through the stars, guided by a scientific mediator, the public is invited to discover the exterior of the large radio telescope and the radioheliograph. Finally, temporary exhibitions enable different ways of handling and making observations, for learning while having fun.
