Royal Fortress of Chinon
The fortress, with its majestic position overlooking the town, built by Count Thibaut I of Blois, invites the visitor into the heart of France’s and England’s history. The court of Henry II Plantagenet and Eleanor of Aquitaine was established here in the 12th century.
Description
After a colossal renovation project that lasted six years, 150 metres of ramparts were restored at the Chinon Royal Fortress and the logis royaux recovered their 15th century Touraine aspect. Interactive and entertaining, the modern museum display and stage design bring this historical site to life. What's more, there is a fabulous view of Rabelais' city and the Vienne valley.
