Although nature reigns here, the 3,000 lakes spread out across Sologne were shaped by humans, from the Middle Ages onwards. On the moors, admire the expanses of purple heather as far as the eye can see! In the wetlands, other flowers flourish, such as the magnificent purple and red orchids of the flood meadows.
Take the duckboard walkway discovery trail over the Guette peat bog (Neuvy sur Barangeon) to observe the fascinating cottongrass or the Drosera, a peculiar insectivorous plant!
OBSERVING THE FAUNA OF SOLOGNE

Among the fifty or so mammal species in the area, keep an eye out for stags, roe deer and hinds. The lakes are home to a multitude of fish, including the brook lamprey, a funny eel-like fish with a suction-cup mouth. Take the time to sit back and watch the many dragonflies zipping through the tall grass.
Head to the Etang de Beaumont observatory to find out more about all this abundant wildlife.
