Accueil Organise your stay Visits Gardens & parks La Carrière Cheret
Considered as the capital of stone of the Low Berry up to the beginning of the 20th century, the quarry of Cheret, nowadays abandoned, offers remarkable landscape, floral and geological characteristics.
The micro-climatic conditions are highly varied, allowing for the development of a wide variety of flora. On the upper slopes, the sunshine and limestone soil are ideal for vegetation typical of calcareous grasslands, such as orchids and marjoram. At the bottom of the quarry, the accumulation of water and permanent shade create a cool, damp local climate, home to several species of fern, including the Deer's Tongue.
Among the 430 species recorded, flora, butterflies and birds are well represented. Various inventories have uncovered more than 250 different plant species, 41 butterfly species and around thirty bird species, including the Barn Owl. This protected natural site is open to visitors all year round
