The Peatland of Froux

Acidic marshes are conducive to peat formation, produced by decomposing moss.
On the edge of the Senonches national forest, the Biquet valley cuts into a subsoil of flinty clay and sand. The rainy climate brings water in abundance and favors a luxuriant vegetation whose slow decomposition is at the origin of the Tourbière des Froux, one of the most beautiful in the region. An acidic marsh that favors the accumulation of peat from the decomposition of sphagnum mosses, it is a living environment preserved by the Parc naturel régional du Perche, the commune of Manou, the Office National des Forêts and the Conservatoire d'espaces naturels de la région Centre. Thanks to a 1.5 km long path on a wooden pontoon, this natural site offers beautiful observations if the walker lingers.
